Inspiring Movie .. a New Task is Born !

For Foodies & Food Lovers .. This is the movie to watch ! It's combines two stories of two women and their journey in finding themselves through food and recipes. Julie & Julia (2009)
The movie talks about a young woman who's frustrated with her government job, her & her husband's living arrangement in Queens and her purpose in life. She takes on a task of cooking 524 recipes of her idle's book; Julia Child's Mastering the art of French Cooking. She starts blogging about each recipe and the struggles, the accomplishments and all the emotional challenges she faces. The movie also takes us into Julia Child's journey in the making of the book and her career as a legendary chef.

This inspired me to do the same. I have many chefs that I'm inspired by and would love to try all their recipes. Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver, Todd English, to name a few.
I would love to start out trying to cook almost everything in Nigella Lawson's How to Be a Domestic Goddess: Baking & the Art of Comfort Cooking.. I already have tried so many recipes from it and why not go for the whole thing from cover to cover?!

So there, another task to add and another challenge to tackle. I'm contemplating the timing and the deadline.
This is a fun idea to take on, I'm still processing it.. so this is pending until I post the start & due date.

NO to Resolutions .. YES to Taking Charge of my life !

Since the end of last year 2010, I made a promise to my self, never to make resolutions for the new year. Especially ones that I can't keep or procrastinate in doing!

So many years have passed and I keep doing the same old thing, making promises to myself and never deliver! I owe it to ME to stick to my word! I have no interest in disappointing myself anymore..
I have decided that change should not be planned and put on a To-Do check list, in fact it should be put to action right then and there!
Through out the years most of my resolutions do not see light and end up being carried over to the new coming year resolutions list. I think that's just sad! I either couldn't afford to do them and got distracted, or I was simply too lazy!! What ever the reason was, I'm not going to make excuses for not practicing more self discipline!

PROCRASTINATION.. !! I already filed for divorce! I'm divorcing your a$$, I don't want to make promises I can't keep to myself, I don't want to be hard on my self either.. I'm not going to delay, postpone or even cancel my decisions any more. ACTION is my new best friend!

Taking charge is great, but it's a heavy load with lots of obstacles and difficulties. I can do it.. I know I can, I believe I can.

Yeah well.. Happy new year & all that stuff! .. okay.. so I became such a boring writer.. But, hey, who said anything about being good in the first place ?!..

It's all game and fun.. isn't it? ... I guess..!

Anyways.. nothing special to write about, although a lot has been going on in my life, but, I'd rather keep that hush hush for the time being.. maybe share those things in later posts. At least that way I'd have something interesting to talk about.

As for general stuff, it's too cold to do anything except eat, so I've been doing a little bit of cooking and more & more eating.. less work and more sitting..

Having FB, twitter, a new iPad and a brand new iPhone doesn't help when it comes to moving !! I keep downloading applications for my iPad & iPhone.. don't feel like moving..

I should exercise more.. I know.. but really? can I? it's too cold :(

This is my most recent addiction..

This show has geek written all over it, but honestly with their 3rd season now, this might be the funniest sitcom I have ever seen!

The Big Bang Theory really works for me.. maybe I'm a geek at heart!

My two Favorite characters are Rajesh Koothrappali from India. An Astrophysicist who has a social anxiety that is suppressed by alcohol and cannot talk to women if not intoxicated. Then comes Sheldon Cooper, or should I say Dr. Sheldon Cooper MSc, PhD. from Texas Who works as a Theoretical physicist. His character is way too complicated to explain, must be observed to understand!

I give it 2 thumbs up!

2009.. a resolution for no resolutions!

At the end of 2008 I made so many plans, so many resolutions for 2009. I went through my list that I jotted last year, scratched out what’s been taken care of and of course as I do every year, I shifted the ones I hadn’t !

But sometimes and throughout the years life throws interesting situations your way and divert your path. In my case I knew exactly what to do. I embraced that change and with open arms I let it in my life. It brought tears and joy, laughter and pain, but most importantly it brought promises, broken promises. Or was it me with all those high expectations and hopes?? I’m not so sure!

I wanted to post my New Year resolutions list, just like I do every year. But then it hit me! Why? Why waste so much energy when we can’t really control what happens in life.

I’m making myself a promise to delete the damn list and live life spontaneously. No plans, no agenda. Just live it day by day as it comes, keeping “change“as an option without putting my hopes up too high.

Horraaay for new beginnings.

Pre dining: Entered the restaurant..requested a table...sat down.. annoying waiter.. dirty napkin..waiter argued it was a print on the napkin.. I argued it was used napkin.. waiter agreed to get a new napkin.. went ahead and ordered...Order consisted of:

شــوربة عدس
سلطة فلافل
كــشــري
2 عصير رمان

The order itself was a ticking bomb, never mind that.. it got worse..

we both had our soup.. a bit too much cumin but hey,, no biggi.
the salad was ok.. nothing special ..it was a green salad with falafel pieces and taheini dressing.

Kushari tasted like 3aish w daqoos..

so far no problem.. not a great experience but ..eh, what the heck it's a try out.
so while digging into my kushari and through my 4th bite I choked.. seriously choked!! I couldn't figure out what was that I sensed in the back of my throat.. sorry for being too graphic.. but I neither could swollow it nor could I spit it out !!

After 2 glasses of water and a few sips of my pomogrenate juice I was finly able to wash it down!
I was still puzzled by the sharp sticky object that I couldn't swallow.. so I did my little investigating technique and searched through the kushari bowl to find out what was this little surprise they served me.. it was a small piece that looked like a raw onion, yet not exactly?!..

So,, my partner in crime decided to dissect the object to find out what it was.. to our astonishment it was not a rough onion nor a cooked one!!!.. actually,, it was not food at all !.. and after all the smelling, pinching, bitting, nipping and tearing of the object.. to our surprise it was nothing but PLASTIC! yes ladies and gentleman plain old plastic.

our conclusion was that while preparing the extravagant dish.. and putting the ingredients together .. some of those ingredients came in a plastic bag .. and ofcourse... a little plastic gift was stashed in there for me to discover

Over all experience: in my case BAD

moral of the story: check your food prior to eating it.. you never know what kind of surprise awaits you !

Note to self: NEVER go to ayyame again!

Specific location: My bedroom, working on my computer.. yes a desk-top!
Reason for being up this late and tomorrow is a working day: cause sleep won't come to me !

...Suddenly.. I feel it! .. oh my God.. everything is sorta shaking!

did I just accidentally bump into my desk and cause all this movement? .. well I'm clumsy .. I have established that..and everyone knows I am.. but ... the thing is .. I would've known if I had hit the desk!!.. simply because I'd either feel the pain of that hit or get a bruise the second day...hmmm none of that!

so what the hell happened?? why were my tower of Cd's moving? why was I feeling as if I was being shifted slightly ??

next day I get a call and now I know....

I have experienced my first earthquake!! and where?? not in the US..right here in Kuwait.. after all the tornadoes in Florida.. after all the major thunderstorms in Miami and the Hurricanes... now this

did anyone else experience it?

So my trip to London went successfully.. the weather was amazing and it was two weeks of fun, laughter and intense shopping ;)

So I'm still up to my word when it comes to my resolutions this year... it's April Already, so .. let me recap on the ones I actually accomplished and the ones I'm working on..

1- Catch up with old friends - I am .. walla I am!
2- Be a better person - "better than this?!..hehe"
3- Do a good dead - did, done and still doing !
4- Get fit - Brisk walking .. ain't it a pain!em>

5- Spend less time watching TV - Lately I've been sleeping without switching my TV on.. that's one HELL of an accomplishment for me .. I'm a TV ADDICT!
6- Read more books - I'm trying really hard to read.. alot of distractions though ;)
7- Spend more time with family - Wednesday nights !
8- Be happy - trying to get there ... I'm semi-happy.. does that count?

Aiming for a Stress-Free Lifestyle...

Meditate:

- Any activity, from walking to swimming, can be a form of active meditation as long as you make an effort to involve your mind, body and spirit.
- Decide in your mind that you are going to participate in active meditation, and determine for how long.
- Begin by focusing on the present. Acknowledge any thoughts of the future or past and allow them to pass.
- Be aware of your actions. Whether you're walking, eating, dancing or sitting, marvel at every aspect of what you're doing.
- Experience how your feet feel as they touch the ground. Appreciate your body as you move, noticing your arms as they sway, your legs as they extend, your shoulders as they relax.
- Notice the details of your surroundings - the smells, the vibrant colors, the sounds, the textures.
- Feel your rib cage and belly expanding and contracting as you breathe.
- Decide when the active meditation is over. It can end either at the completion of your activity or simply when you decide it's over.

A To Do List:

- Before going to bed jot a to-do list in your daily planner (I don't know how anyone can manage without one) for the next day.
- Try assigning tasks to hourly slots, even if exact timing isn't crucial.
- Fill in preset, mandatory appointments such as business meetings.
- Prioritize tasks in order of urgency, and write those down before less important ones.
- Figure out when, during the day, you are most productive and alert. Schedule the more demanding tasks during these times.
- Schedule an easy job after a difficult one or a long task after a short one to keep yourself stimulated.
- Indicate time for breaks and time to spend with family and friends. (it's a must!)
- In addition to your daily schedule, keep an ongoing list of projects that you need to accomplish, but haven't penciled into your daily list ' things to fix around the house, bills to pay, people to call.
- Update this list at least once a week.
- Try keeping a list of long-term goals.

Coping with Worry:

- Tackle the worry straight on. Thinking about the worst possible outcome you could face.
- Reflect on your past..what you worried about, the sorts of bad things that happened. You may realize that even unexpected bad fortune didn't turn out as bad as you might imagine, and that you learned a great deal or somehow benefited from it.
- Realize that worrying will not improve the situation..you cannot prevent bad outcomes simply by fretting.
- Take action to better the situation. Do what is within your power to prevent undesirable turns of events.
- Have confidence in your personal ability against challenges. Review your strengths, the challenges you've overcome in the past and the people around you who can offer support.

I was on a Bike hunt!!..been looking for a decent bike for the longest time, and I finely managed to find one..yaaay! my new 2007 trek 3500.

I think we established the fact that I'm into culinary arts and gastronomy, which makes me get drawn to Tv shows that resembles a kitchen and food in any way.
So my recent obsession is this

Based on the memoir of chef Anthony Bourdain, it capture the insanity that goes on out of the customer's sight, in the Kitchen of a top restaurant. In one episode; on Nolita's opening night, a worker's fingertip goes missing, and a food critic gets seated next to a bathroom door!

The new KFC logo is visible from outer space. laid out at 87,500 square feet using tiles, , this all new logo spot the colonel wearing an apron.
The giant Colonel Sanders logo was built off The World’s Only Extraterrestrial Highway in Rachel, Nevada, also known as the “UFO Capital of the World,” Area 51, and the epicenter of inter-galactic communication.

It took a team of nearly 50 designers, engineers, scientists (including astrophysicists), architects and other professionals working nearly three months to conceive, create and execute building the world’s largest logo. It took more than 3,000 hours to create from inception to launch and was built by Synergy, a leading event company.

The logo consists of 65,000 one-foot by one-foot painted tile pieces that were assembled like a giant jigsaw puzzle: 6,000 red, 14,000 white, 12,000 eggshell, 5,000 beige and 28,000 black. Taking 24 days, working around-the-clock, to manufacture and ultimately produce. It then took six days on site to construct the logo, during which time the logo design pieces were kept hidden and under cover from identified and unidentified flying objects!

Those are some tips for a good night sleep.

Do not nap during the day.

Limit caffeine

Don't smoke (if you are a heavy smoker, try to cut down)

Expose yourself to bright light/sunlight soon after awakening.

Exercise early in the day

Check your iron level. (Iron deficient people tend to have more problems sleeping)

Make your bedroom primarily a place for sleeping ( is not a good idea to use your bed for paying bills or doing work)

Incorporate bedtime rituals. (listening to soft music or sipping a cup of herbal tea)

Relax for a while before going to bed. (spending a quiet time can make falling asleep easier, this may include meditation, relaxation or breathing exercises, or taking a warm bath)

Don’t eat a large, heavy meal before bed.

Bedtime snacks can help. (an amino acid called tryptophan, found in milk, turkey, and peanuts, helps the brain produce serotonin, a chemical that helps you relax. Try drinking warm milk or eat a slice of toast with peanut butter or a bowl of cereal before bedtime)

Jot down all of your concerns and worries. (write down your worries and possible solutions before you go to bed, so you don't need to ruminate in the middle of the night. A journal or "to do" list may be very helpful)

Don't do anything stimulating. (don't read anything job related or watch a stimulating TV program)

Create a bed journal to follow your sleep pattern. (include: time you went to bed and woke up - total sleep hours - Quality of sleep - times that you were awake during the night and what you did (e.g. stayed in bed with eyes closed or got up, had a glass of milk and meditated) - amount of caffeine you consumed and times of consumption - types of food and drink and times of consumption - feelings - happiness, sadness, stress, anxiety)

I got occupied with a few things at home... didn't notice the time...called (....) and took a rain check on our dinner plans...

it was too late to go out anyways and I'm tired.. but I'm not sleepy..so I decided I'll just stay in and watch a movie.

I found an art film.. a German film I bought a while back.. but never came around to seeing it.

a "food movie".. a romantic comedy about a thirtysomething year old top chef in a four-star restaurant in Hamburg, Germany, who finds love in the kitchen. Chef Martha (Martina Gedeck), a perfectionist who lives to create culinary masterpieces. Her sister dies in a car accident which turns her orderly world upside down and she takes in her eight-year-old niece Lina, when a fun-loving sous-chef named Mario (Sergio Castellitto) who is hired to help out in the busy restaurant attempts to win her hardened heart.

a bit of humor.. a bit of romance.. and alot of food. A lovely, lighthearted movie with a beautiful soundtrack.

Ticketing corruption
In a great paper for the National Bureau for Economic Research, two researchers have found that the number of parking tickets that legally-immune foreign diplomats accumulate in NYC and refuse to pay is a great measure of how corrupt their home countries are.

The paper ranks country corruption according to the number of parking violations per country diplomat, and finds that the results match up remarkably well with findings from rough survey-based estimates on the topic. Who are the worst violators? Kuwait blew away the competition with a whopping average of 246 unpaid parking tickets per diplomat over a 5 year period. Diplomats from countries famed for their good political behavior like Canada, Sweden, and Norway didn’t have any unpaid tickets. And countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America - regions widely accused of corruption - all had countries at both the top and bottom of the ranking. Some of the surprises? Colombian and Ugandan diplomats paid up almost all their tickets, while the Italians are overdue on about 15 unpaid tickets per diplomat.
The study also finds that officials from countries that have unfavorable views of the US tend to commit more violations. Apparently, when placed in a “zero legal enforcement” scenario, foreign diplomats in New York start behaving like they would at home:
Diplomatic immunity means there was essentially zero legal enforcement of diplomatic parking violations, allowing us to examine the role of cultural norms alone. This generates a revealed preference measure of corruption based on real-world behavior for government officials all acting in the same setting. We find tremendous persistence in corruption norms: diplomats from high corruption countries (based on existing survey-based indices) have significantly more parking violations.
UN diplomats as a whole owe New York City over $18 million in unpaid parking fines - and they’re complaining about the city’s efforts to crackdown on these violations. Said Brazil’s Jose Selicio a few years ago:
Diplomatic immunity, Mr. Chairman, is like virginity. Either you have it or you have not. I have not seen a half-virgin.
Was he worried about paying up or preserving internationalism? Likely the former. Brazil ranks 29th in the world corruption ranking, with about 30 unpaid tickets per diplomat.

Flying freaks me out

airplane disasters on the news & terrorism have made flying an experience I dread everyday! .. my lifestyle and work requires me to travel almost twice a month.. but everytime I start organizing a trip..either for work or leasure.. I tend to lose focus on the purpose of the trip itself and put all my energy on whether or not I will survive it this time! sounds odd for some people ..I know! but many may relate to those feelings...

this started out when I was young and my aunte used to make it her favorite hobby to freak me out from flying and high-rised buildings, to her..at that time..it was pure entertainment to see the horror on my face when she tells me while we're in mid air on the way to the U.S and back .."guess what.. we're going to crash sooner or later" and I can't really blame her.. I had the goofiest expressions when she said that.. plus how would she know that this could scar me for life! anyways.. my situation didn't get worse over the years and I sorta numbed it by time

..until the day in the year 2000.. in the State.. was winter season and I had to take a flight from one state to another... There was a storm and it was a small plane... it was a very bumpy ride and we were almost going to crash..I was traveling alone .. and I was terrified from all that drama... the guy next to me was crying!! I'm serious he was praying and crying... I felt my entire body shaking and I blacked out for a few minutes. when I came to, my life literally flashed before my eyes. I could picture my body in the rubble of the crash!

Over time my mild anxiety turned into exaggerated fear and that fear had a name ..Aviophobia.. fear of flying and planes! , the news, the terrorist's attacks, planes crashing .. all I could think about before I board a plane is that is this going to be it? what about the plane? .. is this an old aging plane? is it safe? is the pilot sane? is he drunk? are there maniacs on board that will kidnap our plane..?? my brain draws scenario of what could happen..ridiculous scenarios.. ideas that make no sense .. I lose focus and I become numb again... I pop a pill..or two.. just to able to deal with it! how silly and ludicrous my imagination is !! and it's just annoying and exhausting ...I'm using up all my energy ..over what??? seriously..

So I resorted to therapy.. I started taking courses to cope with this dreadful condition... my concern with safety has gotten out of control!

I'm much better now.. I'm more calm when I fly.. I'm still taking those sessions..

I feel better about planes and heights... it's a learning process.. and I'm doing my best.

Steak - medium well is the way I like it.

Thai Food - a certain someone got me addicited to Thai food, especially green curry chicken and papaya salad

Chinese Food - everywhere I go there's a chinese food restaurant! not a huge fan though

Ice cream - addicted to it - my favorite is green tea and ofcourse chocolate

back in the days it used to be Gatorade.. then came along Red Bull... I guess the rush you get from those energy drinks is not enough !!

COCAINE is the newest thing on the market! yes!! it's called Cocaine and what better name than this to describe the legal alternative to the drug?!! The drink's manufacturer promises the red-colored beverage gives a bigger, better and longer energy boost than other drinks on the market.

Right now, the energy drink can only be found in bars in New York and Los Angeles.It will be unveiled in San Diego later this week.

Tuesday's recipe will be by Nigella Lawson whom I think set new standards for cooking, or did she just follow her instinct? she has a unique outlook on cooking, her role and the audience. The following is a juicy quote from a one of her books to give you a better idea of her philosophy.

"...Cooking is not about just joining the dots, following one recipe
slavishly and then moving on to the next. It's about developing an understanding
of food, a sense of assurance in the kitchen, about the simple desire to make
yourself something to eat. And in cooking, as in writing, you must please
yourself to please others. Strangely it can take enormous confidence to trust
your own palate, follow your own instincts. Without habit, which itself is just
trial and error, this can be harder than following the most elaborate of
recipes. But it's what works, what's important."

This is the recipe I picked and I hope I will be making today..

PRAWN AND BLACK RICE SALAD WITH VIETNAMESE DRESSING

Ingredients:
For the Vietnamese dipping sauce/ dressing

2 cloves garlic, minced or crushed
2 fresh Thai birdeye chillies or other red chillies, finely sliced
approx. 4cm fresh ginger, finely minced
4 tablespoons fish sauce
2 tablespoons lime juice (about 1 lime)
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons caster sugar

for the salad
250g Nanking black rice
500g raw, peeled prawns
salt
juice of half a lemon

Instructions:
To make the sauce, simply mix all the ingredients together. It doesn?t get much less complicated than that, frankly.Well, there is the small matter of the rice and prawns. The rice you just cook by following the instructions on the packet; the prawns you poach in some simmering salted water, to which you?ve added the juice of half a lemon, for 5 minutes or so or until just cooked through but still very tender. Let both rice and prawns cool, then give the sauce a quick stir and spoon some over the rice, fork this through and then tumble the prawns on top, spooning a little more sauce over as you go.

* The black rice is real black rice, not wild rice and not white rice dyed black with squid ink. (if you can't find it you can settle for wild rice)

“Where Cuba meets Italy”

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil
¼ cup diced sun-dried tomatoes
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 lime, juice
¼ cup chopped basil
1 tablespoon chopped green onions
2 tablespoons diced green bell peppers
1 tablespoon chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons minced cilantro
1 small avocado, diced
¾ pound fettuccine
Salt & pepper to taste
½ pound turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled

Combine olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, vinegar, lime juice, basil, green onions, green peppers, walnuts, cilantro & half the avocado in a large bowl. Toss well.
Cook the fettuccine in a saucepan in boiling water for 3 minutes; or until al dente, drain.
Toss with the avocado mixture while still hot. Place mixture on a serving platter. Top with the bacon and remaining avocado.

Tuesday Recipe: Herbed Risotto

I'm not feeling very well today, and my gathering is cancelled.. but I'm still going to post the dish I was supposed to cook..

"A delicately ~ scented dish"

Ingredients:
1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 small onion, diced
3/4 cup arborio rice
2 cups hot chicken stock
salt & pepper to taste
1 pound mushrooms, diced
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1 large ripe tomato, diced
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/8 cup chopped basil
1 tablespoon fresh rosemany, minced
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese

Melt the butter in a large skillet. Saute the onion until tender. Add rice, and cook it for 1 minute. Stir constantly.
Add chicken stock, salt & pepper. Cook, covered until rice is tender on the outside and chewy inside.
While rice is cooking, saute mushrooms in olive oil. When rice is done, fold in the mushrooms, tomatoes, cream, basil, rosemary & cheese.

SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Steve Irwin, the Australian TV presenter known as the "Crocodile Hunter," has died after being stung in a marine accident off Australia's north coast.
Australian media reports say Irwin was diving in waters off Port Douglas, north of Cairns, when the incident happened on Monday morning.
Irwin, 44 was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, according to Cairns police sources. Irwin was filming an underwater documentary at the time.
Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality Monday morning off Port Douglas, according to Australian media.
Queensland Police Services also confirmed Irwin's death and said his family had been notified. Irwin was director of the Australian Zoo in Queensland.
He is survived by his American-born wife Terri and their two children, Bindi Sue, born 1998, and Robert (Bob), born December 2003.
Irwin became a popular figure on Australian and international television through Irwin's close handling of wildlife, most notably the capture and relocation of crocodiles.
Irwin's enthusiastic approach to nature conservation and the environment won him a global following. He was known for his exuberance and use of the catch phrase "Crikey!"
But his image suffered a setback in January 2004 when he held his then 1-month-old baby Bob while feeding a crocodile at his Australian zoo. (Full story)

Tuesday is gathering day..and every Tueasday is recipe day for me.. so today will be my first tuesday of recipies here ;) ok.. I hope I didn't lose you with that comment. anyways, since it's my first, it should be special.. and what's more special than a recipe by the British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. I'm a big fan of the naked chef.. his recipies are exquisite.. his TV shows include...Oliver's Twist, Jamie's School Dinners, Jamie's Great Italian Escape, Naked Chef and Jamie's Kitchen.

Since this is a start.. the recipe I picked for today is a starter.. taken from the Jamie Oliver official website
Grilled Marinated Mozzarella - serves 4

Ingredients:
1 loaf of ciabatta bread - could be found at the sultan center or any bakery
8 thinly sliced turkey bacon
zest of 2 lemons
4 large buffalo mozzarella cheeses
8 sticks of fresh rosemary
1 clove of garlic
extra virgin olive oil
3 handfuls of mixed fresh herbs (chives, mint, basil, parsley)

for the dressing
1 good handful of nice black olives, stones removed
1 fresh red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
5 tablespoons lemon juice
5 tablespoons extra virgin
olive oil
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method
Remove the crusts from the ciabatta and tear up into rough 2.5cm/ 1 inch pieces. Mix it in a bowl with the bacon and lemon zest. Divide each mozzarella into 8 similar-sized pieces and add to the bowl. Keeping the leaf tips on the rosemary sticks, remove the lower leaves and then smash these up in a pestle and mortar with the garlic. Stir in 8 tablespoons of olive oil, then pour this mixture over the bread, cheese and bacon. Marinate for anything from 15 minutes to an hour.
Thread your mozzarella and bread on to your rosemary sticks, weaving the bacon in and around. Line up the kebabs on a wire rack and place under the grill on a very high heat until the bread and bacon are golden and crisp and the mozzarella is nice and gooey. While this is grilling make sure you keep an eye on it, as it can turn into a charred kebab very quickly. To make the dressing, chop up the olives and mix with the chilli, 5 tablespoons of the lemon juice and the same of olive oil. Season to taste.

To serve the kebabs, dress the herbs with half of the olive dressing right at the last minute so the leaves stay nice and fresh, then use the other half of the dressing drizzled over the kebabs.

Back ache, neck ache, muscle ache!! I'm aching all over, and there hasn't been a spa I didn't visit! all kinds of massages and NO use!!
I need a good old Chiropractor to fix my problem, but where would I go to find a decent one? there's no chiropractors in kuwait, not that I know of any?!

Fondue Party...

I've been in a good mood lately, I'm not sure why! but hey, I'm not complaining.
I haven't seen my friends in a while because everyone's been busy with work and doing their own thing, so I thought to my self "why not host a fondue party tomorrow and envite everyone over?!" for the sake of a nice get together, catching up on things and enjoying a nice fondue pot filled with a sumptuous Sauce were we dip delicacies into it, pop in a nice movie, could be a classic, and talk all night. Sounds like a plan?? aha, tomorrow, Aug. 22nd, starts at 7 pm and ends.....?? well, whenever!

I'm still debating on what kind of fondue to make. I'm thinking maybe a chocolate fondue with a twist..

To pull it off, here's the plan:

I'm going to go get my old fondue pot that I got back in the states and neglected for the past ...."God only know how many years" . wash it, clean it, pat it dry and set it aside until it's action time.

Ingredients:

2 pounds grated chocolate bars
1 cup whipped cream
2 tablespoons instant coffee powder (optional)
1/4 cup hot water
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
pound cake cut into cubes
a few marshmallows
Peeled & sliced red apples
Peeled & sliced green apples
Sliced bananas
Sliced pears
Sliced Strawberries
Chunked Pineapples
Grapes would be good too.

and now for the preperation:

Cut pound cake into 1-1/2" cubes. Arrange the cake on a serving plate with the marshmallows, apples, pears, strawberries and pineapple and the rest fo your fruits
Meanwhile, combine the chocolate candy bar and whipped cream in the fondue pot. Cook over very low heat until the chocolate melts while stirring constantly.
Dissolve the instant coffee powder in hot water and add it to the chocolate mixture (again the coffee is optional) with vanilla and cinnamon; mix well.

After that I should be ready for my guests. Using the skewers, we'll dip the cake and fruit into the melted chocolate.... Yummy :)

oh, and the movie... I don't know?! any suggestions???

I remember back when I was in Miami, I had to pay a visit to the most beautiful place is south Florida. The Vizcaya.
Absolutely gorgeous, with a breathtaking view of the ocean.

Vizcaya was the winter residence of American industrialist James Deering from Christmas 1916 until his death in 1925. Deering was a Vice President of the International Harvester Company, which produced agricultural equipment for a worldwide market. He chose a bayfront site in Miami for his tropical winter home because of the location’s temperate winter climate and his appreciation of the native hardwood hammock. In addition, his father, William, had already settled in Coconut Grove and his half brother, Charles Deering, would soon develop an estate at Cutler. The latter is now operated by the Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Department.
At the time of Vizcaya’s construction, Miami’s population was around 10,000. More than 1,000 workers were employed in the Vizcaya project, including laborers and craftsmen from the Caribbean and Europe. In addition to the house and gardens, the complex included a farm, livestock, and a variety of other service facilities covering 180 acres on both sides of South Miami Avenue.

Drying Your Hands - A Paper Towel or an Electric Hand Dryer?

A post on Kilama6goog's blog about drying your hands in public bathrooms or restaurants got me thinking... what are the pros and cons of each??

so I decided; since this is a controversial subject, to research it a little bit further.

Alot of experts agree that electric dryers for drying your hands after washing in a public restroom or restaurant is the most ideal way, though some argue that they're less sanitary than paper towels.

From an environmental standpoint electric hand dryers are very efficient because they eliminate the use of paper and since they shut off automatically they conserve energy. One the other hand The Handwashing For Life Institute (HFL) argues that hand dryers have “no place” in restaurant or in any other place where food is being handled because most users walk away with wet hands and transfer bacteria 500 times more than dry hands. HFL advocates paper towels over dryers because they “remove bacteria from hands and reduce general bacterial counts by an average of 58 percent.”

As you can see, different strokes for different folks.
it's for each person to decide whether to use paper towels or an electric dryer.

First season, second season and now the third season will be released on DVD on August 29th.
What a show!! I got so addicted to it that once I got the First season, and from the first episode I got hooked. It's an eye-popping, surprising and completely compelling series, revolving around the lives of two very successful plastic surgions who live in Miami, Sean McNamara and Christian Troy of McNamara/Troy. Living in a society were looks are everything and perfection is seeked, you find those two partners who have different values and ethics struggle in doing the right thing. Sean who's suffering marital problems and is very serious about his job, often finds himself running around trying to fix Chritian's mistakes, while Christian is busy dating all his female clients and conducting shady business deals for the love of money.

if you're squeamish, this is not the show for you. I know I am! but I'm already addicted so I close my eyes during those real bloody scenes.

Remember back in the eighties when Mohammed Al Sanousi proposed a raid to exterminate Rats?? why not create a similar campaign or an animal welfare group were instead they're captured, vaccinated and kept out of the streets, and maybe put for adoption later on.

Well, whoever is going to form such an organization (if they take this seriously) there's this cool Stray Cat Rescue Kit that can help.
A few of those would be handy and ofcourse a shelter.

Is there any organization of that type in Kuwait?

Do you buy his story???
